Interworld Freight continues to inform all our customers and allies about trucking challenges that continue to arise in the land transport industry. This situation is expected to continue and even to get worse.

The trucking industry shortage indicates that companies are looking for drivers and trucks urgently, the rates go up to compensate their costs and the service is less reliable today.

Some of the issues that add to this challenge are as follows:

The implementation of the Electronic Logging Device (ELD) has restricted the quantity of deliveries since services that were previously carried out in one day are now carried in two days. Carriers now are not allowed to extend or modify their service hours. That is why; the dispute for land transport has become more competitive, other kind of industries offer higher profits, so drivers are choosing their jobs for convenience.

The trucks and truck parts demand has increased but suppliers have limitations to cover all the market. Even the steel tariffs imposed to China imports have contributed to diminish the capacity to produce new equipment. Trucking companies are getting desperate to obtain more trucks and truck parts.

We recommend to our clients:

  1. There is volatility in the market, which is affecting the deliveries, and pickups, so we recommend plan in advance. Send the loading instructions 10 - 14 days before to spot containers in ports and ramps. Avoid extra charges due to delays and non-compliance.
  2. Coordinate with US Customs in advance, so there are no delays and make your operation smoothly.
  3. Be flexible when loading time and give to the shippers prior notice. So the cargo loading time will be shorter and trucks would be free to load other customers.
